Product information

  • I use leather offcuts that I have gathered, bought or that have been donated from other makers.

Utilising the pieces that are too small for handbags or shoes, and are a surplus material from the fashion industry. Using offcuts means that there is usually a limited number of items I can make with particular leathers and that they are non repeatable.

  • I use a mixture of findings in my jewellery. The silver tone hooks and all studs are hypo-allergenic surgical steel. The gold tone hooks are gold plated, and the hoops I use are either sterling silver or 14 carat filled gold. I try to accomodate everyone including people with sensitive skin and have found these options are the best for you and my business. If you would prefer other metal findings please get in contact.

  • In place of the repurposed leather, I use sustainably grown cork leather. This amazing material is grown in Portugal as the cork oak tree. Cork trees must be at least 25 years old before the bark can be harvested and even then, the harvest can only take place once every 9 years. Harvesting the cork does not harm the tree, on the contrary, the removal of sections of the bark stimulates regeneration which extends the life of the oak, and in turn the tree absorbs more CO2 from the environment. A cork oak will produce cork for between two to five hundred years. The cork is hand cut from the tree, dried for six months, boiled in water, flattened and pressed into sheets. A fabric backing is then pressed on the cork sheet, which is bonded by suberin, a naturally occurring adhesive present in the cork. The resulting product is flexible, soft and strong and is the most environmentally friendly vegan leather.
